Arco is located north of the Upper Garda plain along the final stretch of the Sarca river valley, that flows right into Lake Garda. Close to the lake and protected by mountains, Arco has a particularly mild climate; due to this fact the town has become known as an important holiday resort. In the early 1900s Arco turned into one of the most important health treatment resorts in Trentino. The name of the town apparently originates from the arch formed by the old town houses arranged around the cliff of the medieval castle.
